Mikkeller SDs Fun with Føder: Sangria Review by @Robyn_Seto
We’re familiar with Mikkeller at #PoliteBeerExpressions, and we are also familiar with their Fun with Føeder series which includes today’s farmhouse ale: Fun with Føeder Sangria. The last time we had Fun with Føeder, it was their Mango and Toasted Coconut variation. Their Sangria variation uses boysenberry, orange peel, apricot, and grapes to mimic the flavors of the fruity beverage. Like the other beers in this series, it has been aged in French Oak barrels (or “foders”). At 6.8% ABV, it is actually higher in alcohol than the Mango and Toasted Coconut version, which is 5.6% ABV.
This brew certainly has the characteristics of a lovely yet light farmhouse ale. The fruit ingredients used lend freshness and tasty tartness. There are hints of sangria flavor, but overall this is a very light and refreshing beverage. There’s a touch of sweetness that deepens as the beer warms, and the oakiness from the Føeder comes forth as each sip dries. No detectable boozy flavor.
Sometimes it can be interesting to see how small changes in the brewing process, such as varying the ingredients, can produce a unique yet familiar taste. It’s part of why I enjoy finding and trying variations of beers I have had before. I strongly recommend the Fun with Føeder series from Mikkeller, and if you happen to see another variation out in the wild I would likely recommend that one as well.
5/5 Burps
And with that, I will be taking a little summer vacation from my Polite Beer Expressions. I very much enjoy writing these weekly reviews, and I will return in a couple months with a refreshed spirit! Until then, keep sippin’!
